Educated village project: |
The project began in September of the academic year 2004 / 2005, and the basic
idea aim to eliminate illiteracy in the village of Al-Morisi in Walayt Barka
within one year. However, due to the fact that the current plan of teaching in
literacy classes extends for three years, an amended Plan of Implementation of
the literacy program to be implemented over three consecutive years.
The project aims to implement the decision of the General Conference of
Education Ministers of the Arab Gulf States to develop a model for adult
education (educated village) and the recommendation of the first literacy
workshop, which was held in Medina Monwra (1st and 2nd / 5 / 2004), where the
recommendations of this workshop to begin to prepare a project in each of the
Member States after the end of the event, therefore a Ministerial Decree No.
(167 / 2004) (Supplement No. 4) issued on application of an educated village
project in struggle against illiteracy in Al morisi village of the Walayt Barka.
At the same time a Ministerial Decree No. (168 / 2004) issued to form a
committee to follow up the application of the draft educated village in the
field of literacy chaired by Wali of Barka and to membership of a number of
stakeholders from the Ministry of Education and community, the project aims to:
- Wipe out illiteracy in Al-morisi village.
- Raise social, economic and environmental awareness during the specified time
period.
- Encourage the community to participate effectively in the success of the
project.
- To deepen the spirit of cooperation and collective participation through
voluntarily work.
- Care and attention to women and raise their efficiency and the size of their
participation in society.
The project, comprised of (12) classes with (198) enrolled scholars. Twenty six
teachers taught in these classes. The curricula applied in this experiment are
of a curriculum approved by the Ministry of Education for literacy centers,
represented in the core subjects (Arabic - math - Islamic education - and the
general culture) as well as other cultural support programs are implemented by
the affiliates involved, such as Health Affairs, Endowments and social
development which presented in the form of cultural lectures in the classrooms,
and in the village meetings halls.
Through continuous monitoring by the committee responsible for preparing,
planning and analyzing the results of the workshop held by the Arab Bureau of
Education in Muscat, in addition to the annual results of students, indicated
that excellent results-level grades has been achieved. Furthermore, the final
project assessment report confirmed the true indication of success of the
experiment.
For this reason the ministry addressed various educational districts to consider
the possibility of its application, where the Dakhlih initiated the application
in the academic year 2005/2006 (Barkat Al-Moz) in Nizwa and has also been
applied in the 2006 / 2007 in each of Al Buraimi and in the eastern region of
North Mudhaibi and the area Lwaa in Hramoul village. It is expected to be
applied in many other areas in the next years and that as a strategy in the
overall context of the confrontation of illiteracy in both dimensions
alphabetically and culturally.
