How do you achieve positive results in the face of the competition?
The competition aims to maintain hygiene and health in the school environment to
reinforce the values of cleanliness and preservation of the environment to
become behavior inherent behavior throughout the life.
But we find that some schools did not give this aspect the deserved attention,
and therefore its program fails to instill and strengthen those values, and
focused on semblance aspects, concentrating on preparing school building for
evaluation is adopted as the main goal, therefore was not successful in
achieving these goals for the competition which suggests to effect positive
change on human behavior towards hygiene and environment health.
Interest is directed to the activities and events before the evaluation period
shortly, where efforts are focused on the preparation of the school for
evaluation only, as if the evaluation is a goal in itself and not means to
measure the quality of the application compared to other schools. This indicates
that school which work on such circumstances - putting pressure on students and
teachers- reflects the performance negatively.
Therefore different educational directories and schools should prepare programs
and activities to develop working plan and lay the foundations of programs to
inculcate the values of competition and the hygiene of the learner and the
development of skills and attitudes that help them to apply those values within
and outside the school to become protocol of life and standard of contact;
including appended follow-up methods and tools, guidance and assess the conduct
of students within the school so rest assured that the performance is
progressing effectively.
For an effective, accurate and less effort and material costs the following step
purposed to consider by schools:
o Develop programs and activities of the competition and the procedures for
implementation and follow-up within the school's annual plan - not a separate
plan - and commence implementation of the plan at the beginning of the school
year.
o All school staff to be involved in the implementation and follow-up - Director
- Assistant - teachers - social worker - Coordinator -. . . Etc...
o Orientation and evaluation of pupils behavior in the classroom and outside on
an ongoing basis to be followed-up by members of the school board of the
competition, students, students' management, and all school staff.
o Honor the provoking students and promote the positive orientation in all ways
and means available to the school; and change the antisocial behavior of
non-compliant students to best behavior using educational methods and involving
the parents board members if needed.
o Provide the necessary bins inside and outside the classroom so it is easier
for students to get rid of the trash is ease.
o Evaluate the school activities regularly, what is being done of the programs
to achieve the objectives of the competition and its impact on the behavior of
students with transparency. Insure appropriate means and measures to assure and
promote the positive aspects as well as addressing the negative aspects.
o Share the competition evaluation form clauses and the annotations by teachers,
as well as members of the administration , student activity groups, classes
boards members and could be placed in each class in order to allow students
access .
o Activate every element of the evaluation form, as each element is influential
in the evaluation process since it is measuring and assessing the performance of
each component separately.
o Each teacher should focus on linking the goals of the competition and link his
lessons where appropriate, to name few :-Islamic education - Islamic culture -
Arabic language - English - Social Studies - History - Geography and Science -
Physics - Chemistry - Biology, are the most richness of information relevant to
the competition.
o We note down some of the most important elements and issues that must be
linked to the objectives of the competition and the content and focus during the
lesson and open discussion and dialogue with students around is not exhaustive,
but rather as examples of what should be linked and there are many other topics
that can be activated while the teacher give the lessons of the fact that these
topics will be given greater emphasis by the commission on monitoring and
evaluation of the competition during the evaluation visits, especially during
the classrooms visit where students and teachers talk about the nature of each
substance during the visit, or dealt with in general, therefore students should
be aware of the objectives of the competition and its implications, especially -
but not exclusively - with regard to hygiene and health and the environment .
The elements and issues that should be considered are: --
o Good citizenship - loyalty to the homeland and loyalty to His Majesty Sultan
Qaboos bin Said, Sultan of Oman.
o Establishing the principles of faith and goodness and charity to others -
human relations, and high-establishing the principles of peaceful coexistence
among peoples and respect the values and cultures of other peoples.
o Adhere to the customs and traditions of beneficial inherent values.
o Hygiene in both its material and moral dimensions.
o Health in general and psychologically.
o Nutrition and its importance and its relationship to health.
o The importance of sport and its relationship to health.
o Environment types and natural sources and methods of exploitation of
resources.
o Pollution of all kinds, and the implications on human health and the impact on
the global climate warming.
o Traffic education and wrong behavior in driving and the high rate of accidents
and the social and economic price for it.
o Disease spread, in particular: (AIDS - Tuberculosis - diabetes - blood
pressure ? anemia-A (H1N1) .... etc).
o Narcotics- smoking and similar use ... etc...
o To focus on mental skills of dialogue, comprehension, inference and deduction.
